Personally I have always had a leaning towards distance learning. Growing up in country Victoria, the few courses available were often on nights when I had other family commitments. Distance Education over the years has opened up many opportunities for me that I may not otherwise have had.
I currently live in Dapto near Wollongong. In 1993 I started training students in Medical Terminology and Medical Reception for Macarthur Community College. Around 1999 while working for South East Community College in Nowra, it became apparent that there were many students who would like to do the courses, but couldn’t because of distance. Since then the courses have been adapted to distance and online learning.
The enrolments from colleges has increased from 180 in 2003 to 455 in 2006. Therefore what started out as a part time job has developed into a full time job with other trainer/assessors joining in. |
